The Women's Institute as an organisation is an Educational
Charity. It is non-party political, non-sectarian and non-racial.
It welcomes women of all ages who are interested in furthering
their own knowledge and promoting the advancement of an
improved quality of life within the home, in the local community
and at national level.
Since its formation in 1957, the Flackwell Heath Evening
Women's Institute has played an important role in village
life, being consulted on such topics as siting of bus stops,
introduction of street lighting and fund raising for the
Community Centre. Its members have found new skills and
developed new interests through speakers and demonstrations
at local meetings plus events at county and national level.
The FHEWI has its own craft group and Scrabble sessions.
An added pleasure for many members is the opportunity to
attend courses at Denman College, the WI's own residential
college at Marsham, Oxfordshire. While following these aims,
the greatest benefit for many members has been the fun enjoyed
and friendships gained.
